North American company develops new polyethylene resin

packaging, mixing and compounding

basell North American company (Basel) two new polyethylene resins as transparent and rigid packaging materials challenge PS, pet, PVC and other PP series plastics, and can form a new performance balance in thermoplastic molding, stretch blow molding and injection molding

basell has a new third branch of PP group. This functional resin has a variety of functions. It is used as a dispersant for plastic flame retardant, as an affinity agent for engineering thermoplastic blending, and as a coupling agent for reinforced polyolefin composites

basell's new PP family named adstif has a wide range of consumer goods packaging users. The materials are made by the Spheripol process of film, sheet and thermoplastic molding, which is Basell's experimental method for processing hot sealing strength of cast flexible packaging bags. (in the early days, adstif brand was made by catalloy process and used as a mixed resin to produce automotive injection molded parts)

due to the wide molecular weight distribution of new materials, these resins are much better than standard PP in impact resistance, rigidity and thermal deformation temperature. And they are equal to or even better than PS, pet and PVC in the balance of transparency and toughness

at present, there are four brands for selection: adstif x is a 3.5 MFR homopolymer used to produce turnover boxes, beverage cups and covers; X and X are considered as typical reactant grades, containing 15% rubber and 3.5 MFR impact copolymer; X is specially designed for frozen milk and ice cream containers; X- is applicable to sports cup and hollow corrugated board

adstif x is a kind of 4 MFR impact copolymer. The rubber content is half less than that of the traditional impact copolymer. It is designed for the refrigerator storage package with good sample breakpoint, such as milk tube, yogurt cup and portion container

basell said that the transparency and impact resistance of adstif thermoplastic containers under lightweight packaging are better than PS containers. For example, a 230cc deep formed beverage cup produced with adstif x resin has better impact resistance, top load strength and transparency than PS cup. PP cup is reduced from 3.9G to 2.1g of PS cup. Although the weight is saved by 46%, its performance is still better than PS cup

a similar result was obtained for a medium shaped Cheese Cup. At this time, the weight of adstif was 32% less than that of hips/gpps mixture and 17% less than that of standard PP Homopolymer

in multilayer casting film packaging such as bread bags, it is said that adstif has better strength, toughness and barrier properties than standard PP. In addition, the productivity of adstif is very obvious. In the high-speed unit type packaging line, the production speed of adstif resin is as high as 350 bags per minute of total factor productivity without loss of strength. A variety of mature technologies have been introduced to the market. Traditional PP materials begin to lose strength when the machine speed exceeds 310 bags
